Prince Christian Fellowship 2010

Applications are invited for an award under the Prince Christian Fellowship scheme at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Australia.

In March 2006, to honour the birth of Prince Christian to Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute established the Prince Christian Fellowship to enable outstanding scientists or doctors from Denmark to spend at least one year working and training at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, one of Australia’s leading biomedical research institutes located in Sydney.

The aim of the Prince Christian Fellowship scheme is to strengthen the collaborative ties between Australian and Danish researchers, who have long shared a common bond of excellence in biomedical research. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in a centre-of-excellence with world-class scientists, who are committed to discovering new paradigms applicable to contemporary biology and to finding important new preventions and treatments for heart disease. Over time, Prince Christian Fellows will form an influential alumni network that will further enhance the links between the Danish and Australian biomedical research communities.

In selecting Prince Christian Fellows, the Selection Committee that will be comprised of members of both the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters will be looking for researchers of exceptional academic achievement, demonstrated research ability/potential and leadership capacity. Fellows may choose to work in any of the Institute’s research programs (for more details see: www.victorchang.edu.au/research/welcome.cfm?cid=91).

The Fellowship will provide an allowance equivalent to the appropriate NHMRC Salary Scale. In addition, the Fellowship will cover return direct economy airfares for the appointee, his/her partner and children up to 12 years.

Applicants should be Danish citizens, hold a PhD or MD degree and have a track record of excellence during their undergraduate training. Interested applicants should submit a letter of application including the names and contact details of three referees and attach a full CV, to A/Prof. Jamie I Vandenberg, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, 405 Liverpool Street, Darlinghurst, 2010, New South Wales, Australia by mail or e-mail: admin@victorchang.unsw.edu.au or to The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, HC Andersens Boulevard 35, 1553 Copenhagen V, Denmark by e-mail: kdvs@royalacademy.dk by 16 November, 2009, with the expectation of starting during the 2010/11 Academy year.
